Small Business Innovative Research Program: How it can Help your Small Business
Small Business Innovative Research Program (SBIR)
The US Governments Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program is a great way for small, innovative technology companies to pursue Federal funds and contracts. This Government program is utilized by several Federal Agencies including:
Dept of Defense
Dept of Agriculture
Dept of Education
Dept of Energy
HHS
Dept of Homeland Security
NASA
Individual agencies administer their own SBIR programs, setting their topics based upon needs, accepting proposals and awarding contracts based upon a competitive process.
The goals of the SBIR program include:
Stimulate technological innovation
Meet Federal research and Development needs
Foster and encourage participation in innovation and entrepreneurship by women and socially or economic disadvantaged persons
Increase private sector commercialization of innovations derived from Federal research and development funding.
Like all government programs the application process can be somewhat daunting interested organizations will need to:
Complete a technical response
Develop a presentation overviewing their proposed solution
Register in the Governments System for Award Management (SAMS) and receive a CAGE Code
